A BODY OF WORK

Trinity Tests

Prompted again by discussions with Richard about the use of mirrors I conducted some further experiments. The intention was to explore the concept of The Holy Trinity; The Father , The Son, and the Holy Ghost. I represented the different characters with the different clothing. This in turn made me reflect on the tests I had done in my car using the rear-view mirror which I liked, but realised could be improved by again differentiating the characters with clothing choices. I also wondered about reshooting the car images at night, blending ambient light and flash for more drama and visual interest.

In terms of the images below, I first composited an arrangement that placed “The Son” and “The Holy Spirit” together in the mirror to imply a separation from “The Father” without excluding the spiritual. However it then occurred to me that a loss of faith or critique of this particular patriarchal cultural narrative would be more clearly expressed by swapping the positions of “The Son” and “The Father” to separate “The Son” from both of the other protagonists. Because of this, I prefer the second image and feel it is more successful.
